Kimono dressing

Well, I have finally convinced the Birmingham Japanese Society that we should have a kimono dressing. So, our December meeting will be just that. I'll write a brief presentation and then start dressing people. So... anyone that can come up and help is welcome to come if you want. Unfortunately we won't be paid for this event but it will be for the love of kimono. And there will be men there so I'm going to have to learn me some men kitsuke. I'm going to finally buy Kevin a set so I can get practicing. I will also learn yukata kitsuke for men too. I figure that might be easiest to start with.
And I am now the chairperson for the Birmingham Japanese Society so I've got my work cut out for me!

  1. Congratulations! :) :) :) You'll be a great chair ;P

I would love to come up and help :) And also, if you want I can let you borrow one of my husband's sets. He has like 5 of them and since they are technically 'mine', probably won't even notice that one is missing lol. And I have a book on men's kitsuke too. )

  3. Before you all say yes, it's on a Friday night. 10th December. That may not work for you. :( You are welcome to stay at my house so you don't have to have a hotel if you want.

If you can come then great!!! That would be great if I could borrow your husband's things Lyuba. Even if you can't make it, I could possibly make a trip to you to borrow them if that's possible. I'm still going to buy Kevin a yukata if it kills him! LOL!

  8. I think I'm ok for stuff. I've just ordered a second set of obi makura and obi ita from Ryu. I may need more himo. I'd love to find the stretchy kind.

  9. LOL You can also borrow my mountain of kimono dressing stuff... you know those I said I had like... 5 sets of? ;P See! The occasion came! :)

I can just bring my husband's stuff when I visit you in Birmingham. If not, then I'm sure we'll come up with something :) Or if you do want it sooner, we can just meet up somewhere in between haha :)

And I don't see a problem with attending on Friday night. I'll just ask for a day off. I would appreciate the opportunity to stay at your house tho, since I really don't know the city and will be traveling alone.

  11. I seem to have an insane amount of elastic date jime seen as though you only ever really need two. I think I have 5 or 6!

I can bring my byosugota too (sp?) but I think I will need to practise fancy obi's on someone though!

Maybe dress a furisode with a plump sparrow? I have a DVD of that!

I don't mind coming round if you want to practise your presenation/plan. Even if you dress me as a man.

  12. Ah! You girls are the best! I have no idea how many people we'll be dressing. I must say we usually get more guys attend our meetings than girls, so it should be quite fun!
Red Azumi, yep that's probably not a bad idea. I don't think my husband really wants to be a model. I do have a lady mannequin that I supose could do for a man though! LOL!

  13. No boobs or hips so I can do 'man' pretty well, even though it will be more fun if you get a model from the 'audience' for the presentation. How long do you have?

  14. Oh yes, we'll definitely be dressing people there. I'm just going to give a brief talk about kimono and then start dressing people. I may or may not dress in kimono myself, I think it's easier to dress people when not wearing kimono. What I will probably do is bring my mannequin and dress her really nice. Our meetings are roughly 2 hours. People will also be mingling and eating goodies.

  15. I should be able to get a friday off even if I am working. I will be living in Sheffield at that time and you are only an hour away.

I don't think my fiance will want to be dressed up. In addition, he has too much belly and 6 feet tall.

It would seems you have all the kitsuke items so I will offer my obi musubi services. Let me know what musubi you would like to show off so I can get them into memory.
